Issue:
PC has shared printer. Adding the printer the normal way using the Print and Scan Mac Preferences results in an error message saying that basically it could not access and rip/convert correctly.
Solution:
Use the Advanced option when adding printer and use the "smb://" syntax.
1. Open
System Preferences
2. Click the
+
on the left to add a new printer.
3. Click the
Advanced
icon.
Note: If the Advanced option is not visible, choose
View
-->
Customize
and add
Advanced
to the tool bar. (Advanced looks like a gear.)
4. In the
Add Printer
dialog:
a. Type:
Windows printer via spoolss
b. URL:
smb://username:password@192.168.1.115/myprintersharename
c. Change the printer driver to
Epson Stylus Color Series
(via
Select Printer Software
).
Note: Do NOT select the driver that installed with the Epson software. It only works with a locally installed printer.
5. Click
Add
to complete the setup.
Now print a test page to confirm installation. Note that printing from the mac uses the highest quality setting, so it will take longer than on the PC, look better, and use up more ink.
